Hello Reza Mahmoudi Mehrizi, it’s a pleasure to have you with us for this interview. Congratulations on your award at last season of the “Indie World Film Festival”.
Q: Your new movie is “Lonely Season”; in a few words, what is it about?
A: Farzaneh was a compassionate mother and a faithful wife. The life with love was going on, but unfortunately, her life was overshadowed by the shadow of darkness. While she was struggling with problems and circumstances, she accidentally found a secret that changed her life course completely….
Q: When did you plan to do this film ?
A: This story was in my mind three years ago. I wrote this film based on a true drama story. I am very interested in true cinema.
Q: What got you into filmmaking in the first place, and did you receive any formal training on the subject?
I participated in school theater since I was a teenager and middle school. And always I liked to watch a lot of movies. And I was encouraged a lot in school. This was a new beginning for me in the art of filmmaking.
Q: What can you tell us about your film work prior to this film?
A: In the past, I was mostly busy with writing. Not every story satisfied me to make a film. I made many short films. But after making it, it did not satisfy me. I started another story and made another film. I am always very obsessive and sensitive in writing and making movies.
Q: Can you explain or tell us some of the important elements of this film that makes it interesting?
A: The biggest attraction that encouraged me to make this film. The social reality was the story. which happened in the heart of the Iranian community. The actors had a good relationship with the film. Especially the group of actors who trained hard for many years and reached the peak of their art in the film.
Q: How big was your team and what were the cameras that you used?
A: My group of actors were especially the main actors. who have been training with me for more than ten years. And Bazi showed their great talents in this movie. Each one of them is a movie superstar. Regarding the film crew, I try to use the best crew, the cameraman, the sound engineer, and even the best editor. . I will try to have this group with me in my next works. I used a Sony Mark Alpha 7 camera to make this film. Mark Zeiss movie camera lenses were used.
Q: Directors (and indeed actors) who inspire you and what are your favourite movies?
A: I am more interested in classic movies. My favorite directors are Tarantino, Hitchcock, Pasolini, Bunnell, Bergman, and Scorsese. My favorite actors are El Pacino, Robert De Niro, Anthony Quinn and… My favorite movies are Hamshahri Kane, Lawrence of Arabia, Silence, and many other movies, which would take too long to name.
Q: Where can people see your work?
A: Soon, various screenings of my films will be held in Europe and America. I hope my film distribution team will help me in this matter. Unfortunately, very few Iranian short films are screened at the international level.
Q: What are your future projects?
A: I wrote various projects. I am sure it will be welcomed. I hope to find a suitable investor and developer to build projects. Be sure to wait for my next work.
